Well, it's 2008 and another Connecticon has gone by. There was a lot of good and little bad. This years Connecticon was marked by it's sheer number of web comic artists. Scott Ramsoomir , Brian Clevenger , Tim Buckley , David Cheung , and Jenny from Devils Panties were there to name just a tiny few.
One big change this year was the layout of the convention center. The video gaming room, dealers room, and Artists Alley were downstairs two floors from the main panels and tabletop gaming. This was a minor inconvenience since, as many of you know, walking all day long though a convention center for three days straight makes for very sore feet.
Being a medium-large con the gaming room was a great place to hang out. You never really needed to wait long for a game and there were plenty of skilled players to compete against. For the hardcore fans there was everything from King of fighters to Smash Brothers Brawl. They also had Street Fighter 2 and Soul Calibur 4. Though the gaming was fun, the tournaments were another story. The problem was their lack or organization. To quote Scott Adams, they were like "a bunch of drunken lemurs playing a joke on other drunken lemurs". I mean this in that they couldn't plan the tournament out and by the time we started, it was between half an hour and an hour late every time.
In the same room you could put down the controller and the board games were waiting to be played. Set, Settler of Cataan, and Tigris and Euphrates kept me busy for much of Saturday.
The best part of the entire weekend had to be meeting Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillips. For the uneduated masses, Robert Picardo is better known as "The Doctor" in Star Trek: Voyager and "Richard Woolsey" in Stargate Atlantis. Ethan Phillips plays "Neelix" in Star Trek: Voyager. It was great to see both of these men come out to see everyone and both were very kind.
Overall Connecticon 2008 was definietly an enjoyable con and worth going to. As usual you can expect to see us there nex year!
